Artist's Statement
Nature is a source of inspiration for me. The forms and structures, the colours, the surfaces and textures. The eternal rebirth and transitory nature of life, I always found these fascinating.
It is important to me to be in the room where I install my work. I use a lot of gut feeling and intuition when I am working. I can make hundreds of sketches beforehand but when I come to the venue with my pieces/modules something always turns out different. Working with commissions for public art is of course something different. It doesn't allow me to be as spontaneous, maybe this is what makes it a challenge to me. Not knowing exactly how I am going to do my installations.
The main material I work with is hand-made paper produced from a variety of fibre materials. I create work from old sheets and cloths, or recycle old pieces of work into new constellations. I dye and mould paper pulp, which is then often combined with aluminium, wood, fabric or beeswax. Our world is so full of things and I appreciate that I can use materials which are useless for other people - and create art from it. In recent years my artistic focus has been on organic, primordial shapes which can operate in moveable and interchangeable arrangements.
